Jenny Hontz is an award-winning journalist, journalism teacher, media executive and consultant. A graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, she began her career as a political reporter on Capitol Hill and has written for publications such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, LA Weekly and Newsweek. She served as TV Editor of Daily Variety and a vice president of creative affairs at Disney’s Touchtone TV studio. She also taught high school journalism and served as lead instructor of Northwestern’s Medill Cherubs summer journalism program. She has trained progressive student journalists at the Center for American Progress, started a volunteer program to teach yoga to homeless mothers at the Upward Bound House in Santa Monica and served for three years on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Southern California. Jenny is the mother of a second grader in a Los Angeles public school that she helped found, and she worked as a parent organizer in Board District 4 during the May 2017 school board election.
