LAUSD Board Meeting Aug. 21

The LAUSD Board will consider two resolutions to fill the vacant Board District 5 seat. One resolutions from Board President Monica Garcia and Vice President Nick Melvoin calls for a special election, and one from Board Member Scott Schmerelson calls for the appointment of Jackie Goldberg. Melvoin is expected to offer an amendment to Schmerelson’s resolution to create an open process for the community to nominate interim appointees.

The Board will also vote to approve labor contracts for administrators and office workers, both of which are getting 6 percent raises over the course of the deal. And the superintendent will report on its plan to improve student attendance. The entire agenda can be found here.

The mission of Speak UP is to engage, educate and activate parents and community members to advocate for excellent, equitable public education at their children’s schools, in their communities, with elected representatives and at the ballot box.
